Upcoming Events

There are upcoming events that may be of some interest to you or your friends.  In the Cincinnati area, there are a couple of items of interest:

1. Photo Pro Expo -  FEB 4&5.   You can get a free admission pass to the trade show by going to the Ohio Valley Camera Club website and downloading the free pass.  You must print it out, fill it in, and present it at the gate in order to gain free admission to the trade show.  A $20.00 value.  You may also get a $20.00 discount off of the $179.00 addmission fee for the entire weekend which include trade show, seminars, and presentations by using the following code when signing up (PPEOVC12).  Check their website for the full details.  http://photopronetwork.com/

2. Mike Motz is coming to Fernald Preserve.  Wednesday, February 29, 2012, 6:00 PM.

All of these events are open to the public, however, you must sign up for them, and in some cases, that may require you having a membership to Ohio Valley Camera Club, which has always been and will always be FREE.  Take a minute and enroll and sign up for one of these fantastic FREE events.

Great Saltpetre Cave

I had the opportunity to visit the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve with Rob Coomer and some of the members of Ohio Valley Camera Club on Saturday, 21 January 2012.

I had only ever been in some small caves in Red River Gorge and a few winery caves in Europe, so, this was somewhat of a new adventure for me.  I have to say that I was surprised by what I saw.  I expected a cold and damp environment, and while it was not exactly warm inside (approx. 50F and still), it was much more comfortable than the icy cold outside.  It was also quite dry, with the exceptions of a couple of small streams and waterfalls dripping in some remote locations.
The preserve is located near the Renfro Valley/Mount Vernon area of south central Kentucky, which is also the home of some serious Bluegrass festivities as well.  It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Cincinnati.
Thanks to Bob Wilcox and Rob Coomer for an interesting day which included a guided tour, free form exploration and photography as well as some light painting.  It was a good day.
